Hi, I’m Marisa
I grew up in the Treasure Valley, living in Garden City as a child, I attended Lowell Scott Middle School. I remember riding the school bus down Eagle Road when it was two lanes and its intersection with McMillan was a four-way stop. One of the pictures below is me in middle school in the field behind Lowell Scott, the view of the mountains has long been replaced by a view of subdivisions. After graduating from Centennial High School, I attended Carroll College in Helena, MT. I came back to Boise, married my high school sweetheart and have raised three boys in Southwest Ada County.
I earned my first degree in social work and spent years assisting families in Treasure Valley before pursuing a degree in Urban Studies and Community Development. Now, I work at a non-profit building strong communities and lead their Safe Routes to School Program (SRTS), which aims to ensure kids travel safely to school, whether they walk, bike, take a bus, or ride in a car. I teach safe travel habits and collaborate with schools and communities to improve safety on roads around schools.
I have served as President of the Southwest Ada County Alliance Neighborhood Association for eight years. As a volunteer organization, we monitor local development and work to enhance our community’s quality of life through advocacy with ACHD, City Hall, and the Ada County Commission. Road improvements have been a primary area of focus, and I have dedicated thousands of hours to staying informed about developments at ACHD in order to effectively represent and support my community.
